The differences between Anti-Wrinkle (Botox® equivalent) and Dermal Filler treatments

Many people are confused as to which pathway to take when it comes to injectables whether Botox® equivalent Anti-Wrinkle or Dermal Filler treatment. Well, we’re here to help you choose the best solution for you. We will also advise during your consultation for complete peace of mind. Our treatment advice might recommend a combination of both products.

Botox® is a trademark of a company called Allergan® we also use equivalent products by Azzalure® and Bocouture®. they use a minute quantity of a purified bacteria to immobilise the facial muscles, this makes it great for wrinkles caused from facial expressions. Dermal Fillers plump up the skin and lips, adding body to those areas of the face which may have thinned out over a period of years. Both are minimally invasive and administered to localised areas using a small needle. It feels akin to a small scratch, but if you are nervous we can numb the area prior to the treatment. But let’s discuss these treatments in a little more detail…

Dermal Filler Treatment

As we grow older we lose collagen under the skin and its elastic properties, Dermal Filler reverses the visibility of wrinkles using injected hyaluronic acid which is synonymous with so many modern beauty products. If your face has wrinkles even when in a relaxed state, Dermal Fillers might well be the treatment for you. Hyaluronic acid although man made is not rejected by the body. Dermal Fillers are also used to make lips look fuller contrary to popular media obsession with Botox®, which is actually used around muscle groups. Fillers come in differing densities unlike Botox-style injections which means they can be suited to your treatment from thin and viscous for small lines, to structural, to softer to fill a wider area. Since your body loses its ability to produce fresh collagen, Dermal Fillers are a great way to turn back the clock and re-volumise problem areas of the skin, with a treatment lasting around 6 months. We don’t recommend Dermal Fillers or Botox-style treatments for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Anti-Wrinkle Treatment

Botox equivalent injections are a purified and denatured Botulinum toxin by nature of being highly diluted in concentration. It relaxes the facial muscles through a process of effectively switching nerves off and has been safely used in clinics for over 20 years and boasts an excellent safety record. Botox-style treatments blocks nerve signals thereby preventing your facial muscles from contracting. Botox equivalent injections more often than not applied to treat lines around your eyes, brows and forehead by relaxing the muscles generally for a period of 3 to 6 months. Although portrayed in the media in the same breath as the dreaded “trout pout” it’s more often than not used to ease the wrinkles of the forehead and around the mouth. Botox equivalent injections can even reverse wrinkles while previously wrinkled skin regains the opportunity to fill back out. At the end of the active life of your treatment the nerves recover as they regenerate and repair naturally. We don’t recommend Dermal Fillers or Botox equivalent treatments for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
